Selenite `Daisy bed Gypsum`

Long Marton, Cumbria, England

389

The Eden Valley gypsum (selenite) mines produced this interesting form of gypsum with stellate groups of crystals formed around seeding points creating attractive flower like  patterns - 'Daisy Bed' gypsum.
This specimen has large, up to 35mm diameter 'flowers' and some show the seeding crystal. The mines  around Long Marton are long close and specimens with this unusual form are quite rare now.
