Broadwood quarry, Frosterley, Weardale, Co. Durham, England
2931
Although aragonite is generally quite rare in Weardale, it did occur at Broadwood quarry near Stanhope. The quarry was worked for limestone in the first few years of this century as well as being the location for the processing plant treating fluorspar from the Cambokeels and Frazer's Hush mines. This specimen from the Edward Lee collection has cream coloured transparent aragonite crystals to around 10mm formed over a bed of quartz crystals.
