The Shetland Isles has an unusual geology, producing mineral species that our rare in the rest of the British Isles. Hagdale quarry was worked for Chromite in the 19th century but the quarry (nearby the later serpentine workings) has now been filled in. This rich specimen from Hagdale consists of dark coarsely crystallised chromite.
