Old Towns Quarry, Middridge, Newton Aycliffe. Co. Durham, England
2429
I find this unusual form of fluorite intriging and as far as i know there isn't a generally accepted explanation as to its formation. This specimen shows the classic specula reflection of a light source by numerous elongated parallel crystal faces. As far as I know Old Towns quarry is the only location in Britain where this form of fluorite occurs. The mineralogy of the quarry is described in the Journal of the Russell Society 2013.
