Sapphire in Mullite

Loch Scridain, Isle of Mull, Scotland

Loch Scridain on the Isle of Mull occasionaly produces sapphires this specimen being a fine example example. The sapphires, formed in pink Mullite, have good colour and whilst most are incomplete there are occasional whole crystals. Loch Scridain is the type locality for Mullite.
