Strontian Mine, Strontian, Ardnamurchan, Highland, Scotland
1785
Episodic calcite mineralisation at Strontian mine in Scotland has produced some interesting fluorescent effects. A fairly ordinary calcite specimen in daylight takes on a eye-catching range of colours in short wave ultra-violet light and highlights the 'mercedes' pattern in the crystal terminations.
