Steetley Minerals news and Update
I hope you have found the new website and its photographs interesting and easy to navigate. It has certainly moved on since its beginning as Rock-site.co.uk in 1999 as one of the first British mineral sites on the web. There is now a further update to Steetley Minerals with another fifty new specimens from classic & contemporary UK and worldwide locations.
The year to date has been productive with trips to the Isle of Skye and Strontian in unseasonably fine April weather whilst over the Summer I have managed to get some collecting trips in to various North of England sites, some more productive than others.
Some months ago I purchased a large collection of worldwide minerals. These were the collection of David & Peggy Bloch, a Swiss couple who spent much of their life in San Francisco. The collection has numerous fine Mexican, American, Tsumeb and Swiss minerals plus a smattering from other places around the world and an excellent Mexican and American agate collection. Over the next few months I will be uploading photos of these on to the website whilst some of the specimens are pre-viewed below.
During the 1980’s Strontian Minerals Limited re-worked the Strontian deposit with a view to supplying barite to the North Sea oil industry. Some pictures, which I believe are from 1984, have surfaced of this mining operation, and I have added them to the Strontian information page. Click here to receive updates and news.
